Director
Susan joined the Wightons team in 1999, after a career at Victoria Legal Aid. She has extensive experience in family law and domestic violence matters. Susan is the lead practitioner for our family law team and provides advice and representation in areas of parenting issues, property negotiation, litigation, and alternative dispute resolution as well as divorce. Her priority is her clients, and she always seeks to advocate for them in a cost efficient manner thus utilising mediation and negotiation processes as the starting point for dispute resolution.
Susan has an interest in ensuring victims of family violence are supported through the separation process to achieve a resolution of their dispute in a manner that provides for concerns as to their physical and mental wellbeing to be recognised and addressed.
She has extensive experience in Child Protection applications initiated by the Department of Families, Fairness and Housing (Child Protection division), representing the interests of parents and children in this jurisdiction.
Susan regularly appears in the Magistrates Court and Federal Circuit Court of Australia to advocate for her clients.
When away from her practise, Susan is developing her skills and knowledge of beekeeping as a hobby apiarist to compliment her keen interest in her gardens and mini orchard.
